Youngs Sportsplex Administration
Last week, the news came down from the City of Welland that Youngs Sportsplex will be under new management to start 2017. As of January 1, 2017, Spectra will be the new management operator of the 128,000 sq. ft. facility.
Spectra is a large international venue management company, operating more than 140 venues. Local properties under their management include the First Ontario Centre (formerly Copps Coliseum) in Hamilton, Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington, Hamilton Place, Budweiser Gardens in London, and Ryerson University’s Mattamy Centre (formerly Maple Leaf Gardens) in Toronto.
“The Youngs Sportsplex is a recreational asset for our City and it’s a premier indoor sports facility in Niagara,” said Welland Mayor Frank Campion. “It is currently under capacity and under-utilized so we’re excited about having Spectra on board to help us maximize programming and maximize revenue.”
In addition to exploring programming opportunities, forging new alliances, and creating special events, Spectra will be partnering with the current anchor tenants, the Welland Soccer Club and the Welland Tennis Club. Spectra have also indicated that they will be making investments in leasehold improvements in the facility to provide food and beverage options for patrons.
We look forward to seeing what Spectra will bring to Youngs Sportsplex in the new year; helping our facility to grow and expand!
Last Friday, we were thrilled to have Special Olympics Ontario (SOO) once again back at our facility for their PAHL Sports Festival! This Festival provides young athletes with intellectual disabilities the opportunity to participate in a variety of sport stations and learn about the benefits of living a physically active and healthy life.
This Festival featured approximately 100 athletes and volunteers from 7 Niagara Region school! Each of these athletes had an opportunity to try out new activities and learn more about getting involved in SOO Youth programs like Active Start, FUNdamentals, Youth Multi-Sport, and Step Into Action!
We look forward to hosting more SOO events in the future!
The holiday season has once again arrived, and with that, comes the spirit of giving! At Youngs Sportsplex, we love to give back which is why we are once again running our Holiday Drive!
From November 21 to December 20, we encourage all of our patrons to drop off any new or gently-used winter coats and toys to help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. You can drop off your donations at our facility (570 River Road RR#1, Welland) between the hours of 9:00am to 7:00pm. Together, we can make this holiday season a little warmer and a little cheerier, and we greatly appreciate all of your support in making that happen!

Earlier this month, we had the privilege of hosting an afternoon of bubble soccer that was by no means your standard event! We were bouncing off the walls with how much fun we had on our indoor fields and the best part – it was all for a great cause!
Thanks to the tremendous efforts of MoveRight Realty, their 2nd Annual Bubble Soccer Tournament was a HUGE success and we were thrilled to be involved this year. Naomi Knight, Operations Manager for MoveRight Realty, said that, “we couldn’t have found a better venue this year than Youngs Sportsplex”!
According to Naomi, and everyone else involved, the event was a winner in every regard. “We’re happy to say we sold out with more teams than expected, our players had a blast, and spectators had great views of the action.” All in all, the event saw 93 participants come out for hours of fun, which was capped off by a 1st place finish for ‘The Braden Bunch’!
But more than this, everyone involved with the tournament was here for one reason – to raise money for a tremendous cause. Red Roof Retreat provides quality respite and recreational programs for children, youth and young adults with special needs, and their families in the Niagara Region. And it is events such as these that truly help to make their efforts possible. This year’s bubble soccer tournament was able to raise an incredible $4,400 for Red Roof Retreat, which will go a long way toward their continued impact in the Niagara Region.
Said Naomi, “we can’t wait to come back next year”, and we most certainly agree with this sentiment! We want to extend our sincere congratulations on a job well done and we want to thank everyone who helped to support this great cause!
We are pleased to welcome you to the new online home of Youngs Sportsplex.
After undergoing a number of changes across our online platforms over the past several months, we made the decision to do the same with our website, which we are now proud to introduce to our loyal patrons! Thanks to the hard work of our terrific partner – Core Sport Communications – we can now offer an improved online option for our faithful followers that we believe will make our offerings even more accessible.
We encourage you to explore all that the new website has to offer and learn more about our wonderful multi-sport facility! We have been proud to be where Niagara comes to play since opening our doors in 2012, and now, along with our other elevated online efforts, we are proud to offer Niagara this new and improved way to see what Youngs Sportsplex has to offer!

It’s time for our gridiron go-getters to go for the endzone!

The season, which will include a guaranteed 10 games, will run on Saturday evenings at 7:00pm, in a 5 v. 5 format. Our adult programs will include competitive, recreational, co-ed recreational, and women’s opportunities.
